Out client NIDYA (Northern Ireland Deaf Youth Association), currently have a vacancy for a Part-Time Youth & Mentor Worker based in Belfast.
JOB PURPOSE:
To deliver an effective NIDYA’ Youth service which is accessible to all young Deaf and Hard of hearing people living in the Greater Belfast Area.

Qualifications
Essential
Either
A minimum of OCN level 1 qualification in youth work & British Sign Language Level 1
Or
A minimum of OCN level 2 qualification in youth work & British Sign Language Level 2
Experience
Essential
A minimum of 1 year working in a youth work setting
Desirable
show evidence of experience in detached or outreach youth work.
show evidence of working in a range of settings e.g. youth clubs, residential or issue based projects.
show evidence experience of working with Deaf and hard of hearing people
knowledge and skills
Essential
evidence of facilitation of programmes of activities for young people based on youth work curriculum
Desirable
have effective communication skills including face to face and written.
Personal Qualities
Essential
ability to engage with a range of stakeholders including young people and adults.
Desirable
effective time management.
ability to work effectively within a team.
Duties.
• To work as a part-time Youth Worker in the NIDYA’s Youth Club for 12-17’s and 18-25’s.
• To work directly with young people in developing programmes and activities based, on young people's needs. This would include work on developmental projects.
• Establish contact with “listen to, befriend, support and encourage participation and responsibility among members in line with the ethos of the youth service "Model for Effective Practice".
• To be aware of and assist in implementing Belfast Education and Library Board policies in relation to working with young people, i.e. Health and Safety, Drugs, Child Protection and, Outdoor Education etc.
• There is an expectation that the worker will report for duty on time and that there will be requirement to work on weekend / evenings/ week residential on some occasions.
• To evaluate work and when appropriate to keep written records.
• To maintain and be responsible for club premises and equipment.
• To arrange home / school visits.
• To work as 1:1 mentor for Deaf young people.
• To be responsible for the management and recruitment of volunteers for Youth Clubs.
• To undertake appropriate youth work training and attend staff meetings and in-service staff training.
