Power Systems / Protection Engineers

£40,000 – 50,000 (negotiable) according to experience
These two roles will require engineers with experience of working on sites such as large scale utilities, power generation, petrochemical and/or large scale industrial. Experience with high voltage equipment is highly desirable although exceptional candidates with LV-only experience will be considered. These roles will necessitate a significant amount of work on customer’s sites and hence relevant health and safety competence will be of benefit too.
• Completing primary and secondary injection protection testing
• Commissioning protection systems and modifications
• Fault finding and failure investigation
• Site data gathering for off-site analysis
• Take ownership of the job from the outset, potentially being involved with the initial enquiry, assisting with proposals and pre-sale client liaison, including visits to the client where required.
• Safety and quality documentation are expected to be included in the day-to-day process in order to enable the site works.
• On-site customer liaison will be essential, as will the ability to report the proceedings via formal means for both internal and external requirements.
• Off-site review and analysis, such as where modifications or failure investigations are being considered.
• Harmonic studies for G5/4 compliance, loadflow and motor starting studies, fault level analysis and arc flash categorisation as well as protection coordination studies.
Skills and Experience
• Site technical expertise area – switchgear, cabling, protection, motors, generators, VSDs, process control, earthing,
• Site-based QHS&E qualifications – CCNSG Safety Passport or equivalent minimum, NEBOSH General Certificate etc.
• Competence – either time-served with HNC/HND minimum or degree qualified with suitable post graduate experience.
• Competent user of PC-based systems such as MS-Office applications and electrical analysis tools relevant to technical area
