Purpose of the Job
To provide design engineering support to the Mechanical Engineering group, for the Fuel Cell Module team.
Key Accountabilities
• Progress design activities to deliver components that meet their performance, reliability and durability requirements
• Support project planning, focus on delivery to meet business objectives
• Report results in line with overall programme
• Provide feedback to project/technical leaders on design and development activities
• Work closely with other internal departments
• Supplier development and liaison
• Keep project plans up to date (to include Project Plans and DVP&R)
• Work closely with the FCM Manager to define the scope of design projects and agree priorities
• Attend Design and Development Reviews, assist with DFMEA updates
• Agree requirements, functions and design specifications with Systems Engineering
• Carry out post mortem of components and report back on findings
Key Results Areas - to do
• Produce design to ensure performance and reliability objectives are met, and shortfalls, deviations in performance and durability from the required functional specification are identified and reported

• Prove design durability with Design Validation testing
• Complete all tasks in a timely manner to ensure program delivery on or ahead of schedule
• Develop and maintain sub-system project plans for design and development of parts or systems
Internal & External Relationships
• Daily contact with key stakeholders to ensure programme commitments are achieved
• Close working relationship with other members of Fuel Cell Module and mCHP teams to coordinate activities and component interface development
• Interface with Systems Engineering and Manufacturing Operations for seamless technology transfer and ongoing support during scale-up
• Develop supplier relationships with procurement function
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Required:
• Degree qualification from a leading university in mechanical engineering (or similar)
• A track record of delivering innovative engineering solutions, with a focus on design and development.
• Strong technical, problem solving and communication skills using recognised problem solving methodologies (e.g. Six Sigma or equivalent)
• Strong experience of Pro-Engineer CAD package
Desirable:
• Masters degree in mechanical engineering (or similar)
• Chartered Engineer or working to become chartered
• Detailed knowledge of mass manufacturing methods and influence on design
