To provide a service for the provision of approved packaging for the safe transport and storage of radioactive materials and other hazardous goods/materials and non-hazardous manufactured components. The service will cover the full packaging lifecycle from concept to disposal, including periodic re-approval of the existing portfolio of packaging designs, and includes the provision of expert advice to internal customers.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Ensure packaging designs are, and remain, compliant with local, national and international regulations and legislation
• Manage the production of drawings, specifications etc. in support of packaging designs
• Manage the modification of existing packaging designs
• Manage the procurement of packaging products and services
• Manage packaging design and procurement work placed at contract
• Ensure allocated tasks are completed in a timely and cost effective manner
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Carry out packaging engineering activities in accordance with the Company’s “Provide Packaging Management Services” process
• Establish customer requirements and specifications
• Carry out technical investigations and produce reports as required
• Ensure that the design of packaging is substantiated and appropriately underwritten
• Provide technical support to stakeholders throughout the packaging lifecycle
• Produce and maintain design records (History Folders)
• Assist with packaging enquiries and provide estimates for packaging procurement
• Contribute to continued process improvement
• Safeguard Company information and assets from unauthorised access or disclosure, reporting security breaches and apply security at all times
• Ensure the understanding and application of responsibilities with regard to the Company’s Environment, Health, Safety, Security and Quality Standards
QUALIFICATIONS
• A degree in engineering or a physical science or a HND/HNC or equivalent in engineering or a physical science, preferably supported by an Engineering Apprenticeship or equivalent recognised formal engineering training
KNOWLEDGE
• Engineering principles and their application to the product lifecycle, CADMID etc.
• Standards applicable to engineering design, drawings, configuration and quality
• Familiarity with UK Health and Safety legislation
• Properties of hazardous materials, including but not limited to radioactive materials, and their compatibility with common engineering materials
• Knowledge of national and international regulations, and the legislative framework, relating to the transportation of hazardous goods and storage of hazardous materials is desirable
EXPERIENCE
• Practical experience in a mechanical/manufacturing environment
• Production of design information such as models, drawings, reports, supporting calculations etc.
• Application of legislation/standards
• Some experience of planning and working within a team to processes/procedures
SKILLS
• Good interpersonal skills when dealing with internal and external stakeholders (e.g. users, subcontractors, regulators and industry bodies)
• Competent in writing technical reports and presenting technical information to audiences with varying backgrounds
• Able to solve logical problems and analyse technical data
• Computer literate to a good standard with common office applications
