Electrical Engineer
Within the Rail industry based in either Crewe or York.
OVERALL PURPOSE:
Lead and direct allocated design resources in the delivery of conceptual and detailed electrical design. Undertake the production of preliminary and detailed designs and associated plans/drawings/documentation. Planning and organising activities and resources to meet programme deadlines.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES OR MAIN TASKS:
1. Assist with directing the Design team in the completion of allocated works in accordance with programme timescales.
2. Allocate roles, responsibilities and production activities within the design team.
3. Monitor progress of works within the team, advising the Design Manager at agreed periodicities, and agreeing alterations to programmes of work or working patterns as required.
4. Responsible for the design and design checking of schemes and location plans for new work and alterations to existing work.
5. Assist with design/checking and production of estimates / target prices and programmes of work for proposed work.
6. Deal with internal and client technical queries and requests.
7. Address and implement quality procedures to ensure that the Division can achieve and maintain ISO9002 registration and to facilitate the successful completion of projects.
8. Perform the duties of responsible design engineer for projects as required by CDM regulations.
9. Perform the duties of Contractor’s Responsible Engineer as required.
10. Prepare and deliver briefings to staff on technical, procedural and Handbook publications, including participation in relevant training as required.
11. Forecast manpower requirements for all design work to enable allocation of resources to be made.
12. Maintain an effective interface with other production functions to ensure a uniformity of purpose and common targets within Babcock.
13. Assist in staff welfare/development/training.
14. Act in the role of design mentor as required.
15. Provide design costings as required.
16. Monitor design errors and make recommendations to stop reoccurrence.
17. Undertake the role of Principal Engineer as required.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
1 Ideal Qualifications & Experience
• Appropriate technical qualifications e.g. Engineering Degree (minimum HNC)
• Background design experience.
2 Business & Personal Competencies
• Leadership and motivational skills.
• Computer literate and experienced in design software.
• Good presentation, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Self starter able to work on own initiative and without direct supervision.
• PTS
• Full Driving licence or willing to learn.
• Competent in design production techniques and skills for wide variety of Engineering schemes.
